COMPOSITION
Each ml contains
Colistin Sulphate: 5,000,000 IU

DESCRIPTION
Colistin is a polymyxin antibiotic known for its excellent solubility, making it fully compatible with all drinking water systems. It exhibits bactericidal action against selected Gram-negative bacteria such as Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio spp., and paracolon bacteria (with MIC values < 5 mcg/ml).

The primary action of colistin involves blocking bacterial cell division, followed by secondary lysis of the bacteria. However, some Pseudomonasspecies may exhibit primary resistance. When administered orally, colistin sulphate is minimally absorbed (less than 1%), exerting its effect locally within the gastrointestinal tract, making it particularly effective for treating enteric infections.

INDICATIONS
COLIMAX ORAL is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal infections in calves, lambs, kids, and poultry. It is particularly effective against bacteria susceptible to colistin, including infections such as Colibacillosis and Salmonellosis. This product targets enteric pathogens, providing rapid relief from digestive tract infections.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Do not administer to animals with known hypersensitivity to polymyxins.
Not for use in treating infections caused by resistant microorganisms.
Avoid administration to animal species not listed under the indications, especially those with an active rumen and intestinal microbial flora (e.g., ruminants).

SIDE EFFECTS
None.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
For oral administration via drinking water. Shake well before use.

Poultry: 1 liter per 2,000–4,000 liters of drinking water for 5–7 days.
Pigs: 1 liter per 2,000–4,000 liters of drinking water for 5–7 days.
Calves, lambs, and kids: 1 ml per 40 kg body weight, twice daily for 4–5 days.

Medicated drinking water should be used within 24 hours.
